Orthopaedic Associates of New Orleans |
A lot has happened since the first hip replacements twenty years ago. Refined surgical techniques, improved materials, and a better understanding of how joints work have led to advances in joint replacements which are now available for hips, knees, shoulders, elbows and finger joints.
Despite these advances, surgery is not usually the first approach. Surgeons begin with conservative management, prescribing medication, physical therapy, or improved nutrition, to manage pain and attempt to slow the wearing away of the joint’s cushion. When this approach is no longer effective, joint replacement surgery may be recommended. As with all surgery, there are risks to consider. New surgical techniques using smaller incisions can offer shorter hospital stays and recovery periods. The physicians at the Orthopaedic Associates of New Orleans are on the forefront of these advances. However, no one technique is right for everyone. At OANO, a careful examination and consultation always precedes any recommendation.
Gulf South Joint Replacement Center at Touro Touro has recently opened the Gulf South Joint Replacement Center which helps make the whole joint replacement process much more convenient and less stressful. For more information, visit the Gulf South Joint Replacement Center Website.
Computer-Assisted Surgery OANO routinely uses computer-assisted surgery techniques as well as minimally invasive techniques to perform joint replacements. This ensures the best result for the patient.
Shoulder Replacement Surgery The surgeons at OANO are also trained in performing the latest shoulder replacement surgeries. Dr. Estrada was recently acknowledged for performing a new type of shoulder replacement surgery; the first of its kind in New Orleans. Click here for further details.
Partial Knee Replacement When only one side of the knee is affected with osteoarthritis, the surgeons at OANO can perform a partial knee replacement to address the arthritis. This allows for a much quicker recovery, better knee mechanics, and long-term relief. Click here for more details. Gender-specific Knee Replacement Surgery Finally, surgeons at OANO perform the first total knee replacement designed specifically for women. This can provide the best outcome for women who wish to have knee replacement surgery. Click here for more information.
